Sovereignty
of Christmas Island was transferred to the Commonwealth of Australia (from
the UK) in 1958 under the Christmas Island Act 1958. Commonwealth
legislation thus applies, and the national park (which includes much of
the fringing reef, out to 50 m from shore) is managed by Parks Australia
North (a branch within Environment Australia).
